Condemning the senseless murder of Madam Chongyu, Monrovia Liberia
Open Letter: condemning the senseless murder of Madam Chongyu, Monrovia Liberia, Killing the golden egg laying goose.
We have been critical and suspicious of the Peoples Republic of China. And maybe a little too one sided. Indeed there are small industrial in rural development victories. There have been some shinning moments; now tragedy.
Please join us as we condemn the senseless violence. On July 24, 2007, a graduate of the Monrovia Vocational Training Center allegedly stabbed Jiang Chongyu to death.
We strongly condemn the killing and request government's support to ensure that the killer be brought to justice.
We cannot have this kind of thing in Liberia. The Chinese government has suspended its operation of Technical Training Project on Bamboo and Rattan Weaving at the Monrovia Vocational Training Center. In the same breath, the Chinese Ambassador Lin Songtian said the program would be continued at a later date. This is grace and forgiveness of phenomenal worth.
The classic tale of the goose that laid the golden egg comes to mind. The narrow minded pernicious petulant man was not happy with the slow rate of golden egg laying. So, he kills the goose thinking to cash in, only to realize to his horror that the egg laying days were over. How long will these young Liberians continue to choke the life out of their own future.
Madam Chongyu was the Deputy Chief of the Chinese team implementing the project. Her murder is horrible. In Ambassador Lin's statement he assured the government that the incident will not hamper the strong bilateral ties or discourage China's commitment to Liberia's recovery. Lord help him. Bless the Chinese team, and Madam Chongyu's family.
